2009 Resident Camps     
YMCA Resident Camps offer youth a safe environment in which positive values, personal growth, lifelong friendships, environmental awareness, and outrageous fun are key elements.  The YMCA has been operating resident camps and teen trips since 1997.  Join us this summer for an experience that lasts a lifetime!  We have great food too!
*Typical Camp arrival is after 2:30pm on Sunday and pick-up is before 12:00noon on Saturday for 7 day programs or 5:00pm on Friday for 6 day programs.  Beginning Adventurers pick-up is at 5:00pm on Wednesday.
 
 
Nature Quest
  Session I     June 21-27 (7 days)  the ADVENTURE* (ages 9-14)
  Session II    July 12-17 (6 days) with Horse Option** (ages 8-13)
  Session III   August 2-8 (7 days) the SPLASH*** (ages 9-14)
 
All Nature Quest participants enjoy a mix of traditional camp activities with special attention on outdoor living skills and environmental education hands-on activities.  In addition, through evening campfires, group games and activities, campers will laugh and create new memories and friends. 
 
*the ADVENTURE - Campers who attend Nature Quest I will experience a Adventure Nature Quest week like no other.  This session will include an outdoor rock climbing and caving trip and focus more on outdoor living skills.  Campers will also use their skills on with a short hike to our overnight campout site where they will set up tents and cook dinner over a open fire.  This week is limited to ages 9-14 and has a maximum enrollment of 30 campers.  Register early for the ADVENTURE!
 
**Horsemanship Option – Campers who register for the horse camp option during Nature Quest II will travel by YMCA bus to Heartland Stables, Monday – Friday from approx. 9:30am – 2:30pm.  Throughout the week, we will touch on many different areas including: safety, grooming and tack, saddling, ground work (lunging and leading), mounting, dismounting, feeding and care, horse breeds, identification and daily riding lessons.  Horsemanship Campers will return to Glacier Hollow each afternoon and have opportunities for traditional and evening camp activities.  Camp will send along a box lunch each day.  Heartland Stables is in Custer, WI, just 10 minutes from Camp Glacier Hollow.  Limited to 10 participants.  There is an Additional Fee for this Option.
 
***the SPLASH - Campers who attend Nature Quest Session III will experience a wet n’ wild week.  This session will include a lazy river tubing trip, a river canoe/kayak trip, and include activities like snorkeling, a giant slip n’ slide, beach party, and water study activities.  This week is limited to ages 9-14 and has a maximum enrollment of 35 campers.  Register early for the SPLASH!
 
Beginning Adventurers (ages 7-10)
    June 28 - July 1 (4 days)
Beginning Adventurers is a 4-day session for younger and first-time campers and is a great intermediate progression point from day camp to the full 6 or 7-day resident camp.  Campers will experience hands-on camp activities like pond mucking, canoe lessons, fishing, archery and more...  Special attention will be given to helping campers feel comfortable in new surroundings.  Enthusiastic counselors will guide these young campers in discovering the wonders of nature and camping, while building confidence and independence.
 
Camp Wise Spirits (Girls ages 8-14)
    August 9-15 (7 days)
Camp Wise Spirits is just for girls. This camp is all about learning who you are and learning to believe in yourself. You’ll share traditional camp activities, outdoor adventures, learn new skills, make meaningful friendships and have lots of fun.
 
 
 
Timbertop Camp (ages 8-13 w/ Learning Disabilities)
    July 19-25 (7 days)
Timbertop Camp is for boys and girls that have been identified by their school districts as needing extra help for a learning disability. Timbertop combines traditional camp programs with extra reading practice and special group activities that focus on dealing with learning disabilities. Special attention is paid to peer relations, building self-confidence and learning new skills.  Please contact us to request special registration materials.  Timbertop Camp is celebrating its 42nd anniversary this summer!
